Degree and Programs

The Chin Christian Institute of Theology offers a number of different degree programs in respond to the needs of the church, society, and of leaners. CCIT runs these studies in three main degree programs: Academic Programs, Ministerial Programs, and Lay Programs.

1. Academic Programs

a. Bachelor of Theology (B.Th: a-four-to-six Year Study) degree program is the basic program in CCIT for church service. Only those who pass matriculation are eligible for the four year B.Th Course.

b. Master of Divinity (M.Div: a-three-to-five Year Study) is a post-bachelor degree program. It is offered for persons who hold a baccalaureate degree that is recognized by CCIT, to enhance learners’ theological thinking and ministry skills.

2. Ministerial Programs

a. Diploma in Theology (Dip.Th: a-four-to-six Year Study) degree program aims to equip persons committed to a Christian vocation in the practice of church ministry. Only who passed grade IX is eligible for the Dip.Th course.


b. Bachelor of Ministry (B.Min: a one-to-two Year Study) degree program is specially designed for pastors (Dip.Th degree holders).


c. Master of Ministry (M.Min: a two-to-four Year Study) degree program is offered for pastors (B.Min, B.Th degree holders). Unlike Master of Divinity, Master of Ministry is not a degree in a specialized academic discipline, but it is a higher ministerial degree program at CCIT that brings together the capacity for critical and constructive theological reflection in developing the specific skills needs for effective ministry in local churches.

3. Lay Programs

a. Bachelor of Religious Education (BRE: a two-to-four Year Study) degree program, which is not for pastoral ministry, is offered for lay learners who seek a deeper understanding of the Christian faith and gives learners to spend some time in seminary to investigate the interrelationship between theological study and other vocations. Bachelor degree holders are admitted to the two years BRE program.


b. Master of Arts in Theological Studies (MATS: a two-to-four Year Study) degree program, which is not for pastoral ministry, is offered to Bachelor holders who want to enhance theological thinking, deeper understanding of Christian faith, and deepen spiritual life.


c. Non-Degree Credit programs also are offered at CCIT.

How to Apply

Admissions

All applicants of BTh and MDiv degree programs must sit for the entrance examination, as in the CCIT Calendar. For academic programs, only those who have been baptized are allowed to apply for admission to the school.

All applicants of any program of study except lay study and non-degree program must sit personal interview done by the Faculty Council as in the CCIT Calendar.

All the prospective candidates are required to be present at the personal interview with the faculty members at the scheduled time before they attend their first class session. The faculty council serves the screening committee, that confirmed by the Board of Trustees.

Tuition, Fees, and Financial Aid

1. Tuition and Fees

Tuition fee for DipTh, BTh, and B.Min program is —- Kyats per unit, for BRE, MDiv, MATS, and MMin — Kyats per unit, for MTh —–Kyats per unit. Non-Degree Credit fees are the same as DipTh, BTh, and BMin.

No Payment means no admission or re-admission to respective classes.

No degree will be granted to those who fail to settle their accounts before the last meeting (academic year) of the faculty council.

Any refund after payment is not practiced.

2. Financial Aid

With the support of a number of individuals and organizations, CCIT is able to provide a limited number of full and partial scholarships to students those who are in need of financial assistance. Full scholarships cover tuition, messing, hostel and miscellaneous expenses (do not cover travelling costs).

The Curriculum

The academic year is divided into two semesters of 16 weeks each, starting June and ending middle March. The curriculum is planned to meet the situation and need of the church and society in Myanmar. Emphasis is placed on biblical studies for people hunger for the message and meaning of the Bible and its relevance to life.

Our curriculum is constructed around three principles:

  1. Courses on History of Asian Churches and Theology are given to acquaint the student not only with the local scene but also with his heighboring countries in Asia.
  2. Practical courses are given to equip the student with the ability to apply himself/herself to concrete situations.
  3. Field education is an essential part of the total program of theological education: to help the student personally experience the Christian ministry by being given the opportunity to apply the theories and ideas he/she has learnt in the classroom; to help him/her develop his/her own experience; to help him/her grow spiritually and morally as he/she identifies himself/herself with the people in their struggle and responds to the realities of the church in the world.

The faculty, in co-ordination with the Theological Education Department of Myanmar Baptist Convention, TED-MBC, and the Association for Theological Education in Myanmar, ATEM, take full responsibility to evaluate and review the curriculum.

The most common teaching method is a lecture method. However, all students are required to present major papers for certain courses on which discussed is exercised. The medium of instruction is English.

CCIT adopts a credit unit system. Generally speaking, one credit should be regarded as equivalent to one hour per unit.

DipTh students are required to complete 120 credits of courses before graduation.

BTh students are required to complete 130 credits of courses before graduation.

BMin students are required to complete 36 credits of courses before graduation.

BRE students are required to complete 42 credits of courses before graduation.

MDiv students are required to complete 93 credits of courses before graduation.

MATS students are required to complete 44 credits of courses before graduation.

MMin students are required to complete 60 credits of courses before graduation.
